EdgeProp reported that the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN) gave in-principle approval to the Carey Island Master Development Plan covering the proposed National Maritime Port City and Carey Island Port Special Economic Zone. The plan includes a port area of about 2,500 acres, additional container capacity of 42 million TEUs and conventional cargo capacity of 38 million tonnes. The housing and local government minister said the development could generate up to 115,000 jobs and contribute about RM4.7 billion to GDP by 2045. The approval is in principle; detailed planning, land use, infrastructure, environmental requirements and implementation timing remain subject to follow-up processes.
